Position Overview

Marquette’s Health Careers Opportunity Program (HCOP) is a federally funded recruitment and retention program for disadvantaged students interested in pursuing careers in the healthcare field (e.g., behavioral health, clinical laboratory sciences, clinical mental health counseling, dentistry, medicine, physical therapy, physician assistant studies, etc.). The HCOP Program Coordinator – Rural Community Outreach will devote 100% of their time to all HCOP related activities to meet the grant objectives. They will work in tandem with the other Program Coordinator to assist with implementing all HCOP activities and support the HCOP Associate Director. The Program Coordinator will report to the HCOP Associate Director.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Recruit rural students and Veterans from Wisconsin to apply to HCOP summer programs
• Recruit students for HCOP Programs for the College of Health Sciences, the Clinical Mental Health Counseling master’s program and the School of Dentistry.
• Coordinate school visits, field trips, and facilitate speaker’s presentations for our network of partners.
• Co-coordinate Saturday Science and Career Exploration Programming.
• Coordinate academic and personal counseling, and conduct admissions advising.
• Collect data, track participants and evaluate HCOP activities for reporting purposes.
• Assisting with the implementation of HCOP activities.
• In conjunction with the Associate Director and HCOP Program Coordinator, oversee the implementation of all summer enrichment (e.g., recruitment, curriculum development, evaluation, etc.).
• Coordinate tutorial sessions for HCOP enrollees.
• Serves as a member of the HCOP Advisory Committee and other advisory boards as deemed necessary.
• Occasional work on weekends and evenings.
• Occasional out-of-state recruitment travel.
• Other duties as assigned.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Bachelor’s degree required. Driver’s license required. Experience with programming for high school students, multicultural programs, and a disadvantaged population is necessary. Some exposure to health care professions is desirable. Knowledge and or experience with community based outreach programs are highly desirable.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Masters preferred.
