Position Overview

The Clinic Director is responsible for administration of all Marquette University School of Dentistry clinics and reports to the Senior Associate Dean for Operations and Clinical Affairs. The position encompasses overall responsibility for day to day clinic administration. The Clinic Director will work as part of the Dental School leadership team to help develop and implement our strategic plan.

Duties and Responsibilities

Included in the duties are the following:

•Provides oversight, coordination, and resolution of patient clinical concerns. The Clinic Director supervises the MUSoD Risk
Manager who assists with this responsibility.

•Supervision of all personnel associated with the Office of Clinical Services.

•Working with the MUSoD Risk Manager facilitates implementation of QA activities. Insures compliance with all clinic policies and procedures.

•Ensures promotion of all activities related to dental school accreditation Standard 5, Patient Care Services.

•Facilitates and promotes the concept of patient-centered, comprehensive care in our clinical facilities.

•Promotes integration of clinic activities with other elements of the curriculum.

•Promotes effective communication between all faculty, personnel, and students within the clinical environment.

•Provides direct supervision and coordination for all administrative duties assigned to the Group Leaders.

•Assists the Senior Associate Dean for Operations and Clinical Affairs and Associate Dean of Finance and Administration in fully implementing the Axium Clinic Management System.

•Oversees the block rotation assignment process.

•Promotes implementation of sound business practices and policies to insure effective use of resources within the clinic. Ensures that clinics are run in a fiscally sound manner.

•Coordinates/oversees development of clinic manuals, clinic calendars, and other administrative documents pertaining to clinic administration.

•Coordinates student clinical orientation.

•Coordinates emergency coverage for after hours services.

•Monitors and ensures appropriate student participation in block assignments.

•Serves as course director for multidisciplinary clinic courses.

•Administers Student Service Point activities.

•Supervises the Directors of the Advanced Care Clinic, MUSoD Community Dental Clinic North, and the MUSoD Community Dental Clinic South.

•Supervises the Assistant Clinic Director, Patient Access Supervisor, Lead Dental Assistant, and the Director of Central Services.

•Chairs the Clinic Operations Committee

•Member of Administrative Council, Clinical Affairs Committee, Infection Control Committee, and Quality Assurance Committee.

•The Clinic Director works closely with the Senior Associate Dean for Operations and Clinical Affairs on several administrative projects.

•Responsible for oversight of the Programs in Dental Public Health, Community Dentistry, Geriatric Dentistry, Emergency Dental Services, and Special Needs Dentistry.

•Provides supervision and support to the faculty assigned to the department. This includes logistical support, annual performance evaluations, and the preparation of promotion dossiers when indicated.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

DDS/DMD degree or equivalent degree required. In addition, candidates must hold a valid dental license in some state or jurisdiction.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

· D.D.S. or equivalent degree

· Wisconsin dental license or eligible for a Wisconsin faculty license

· Five years of clinic or practice management experience.

· Five years of experience in the practice of clinical dentistry.

· Excellent customer service and people skills

· Ability to work as part of a small management team where cross-training is required

· Ability to work independently

· Excellent skills in clinical dentistry.

· Above average computer skills to include a working knowledge of Internet Explorer and Microsoft Office. Knowledge of the Axium software system would be helpful, but is not required.
