Position Overview

Perform all duties associated with the decontamination, sterilization and distribution of instruments and equipment at the School of Dentistry’s Community Dental Clinic South. Maintenance of equipment including completing record-keeping for regulatory agencies and protocols for the School of Dentistry. Perform all duties related to inventory control/ordering supplies. Dental assist on clinic floor as needed. Serve as back-up to Clinic Coordinator as needed.

Duties and Responsibilities

Interpersonal communication/working with colleagues:
Interacts positively and professionally with patients, students, staff and faculty.
Understands operations of the clinic and policies/procedures of the university.
Understands and behaves in a manner consistent with patient service standards.
Assists co-workers in performing tasks to equalize workloads and promote effective clinic operation.
General Work Responsibilities:
Maintain dental equipment as needed.
Decontaminate dental instruments and equipment.
Inspect, assemble, package, label and sterilize instruments and equipment.
Keep records demonstrative compliance with regulatory agency and MUSoD protocols.
Distribute dental supplies, instruments, and equipment.
Order supplies using MUSoD procedures; restock and organize supplies.
Perform dental assisting duties as needed.
Attend in-service, staff development, OSHA, and HIPAA programs as directed.
Perform any and all related duties as assigned by supervisor.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

High school diploma and some dental assisting experience.
Experience with decontamination, sterilization and distribution of instruments and equipment is also required.
Knowledge of how to care and operate manual sterilizer units and an understanding of central service terminology strongly desired.
Must have knowledge of inventory control/supply ordering.
Must possess excellent customer service skills, a courteous demeanor, attention to detail, flexibility, ability to work and communicate with a diverse population, and an ability to work independently with little supervision and constant interruptions.
Must be CPR certified or become certified within months of employment.
Physical demands require employee to sit, stand for prolonged periods, walk, use hands to process instruments, reach with hand or arms, stoop, crouch, or kneel; occasionally lift and/or move items weighing up to 50 pounds.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Bilingual in Spanish and English.
