Position Overview

Works in an advancement operation raising philanthropic support for university priorities by establishing, developing, and maintaining relationships with supporters in the Chicago region.

Duties and Responsibilities

1. Develops and executes a fundraising business plan annually. Meets regularly with advancement staff and others to assess projects, review strategies, and track progress toward meeting fundraising performance benchmarks.
2. Manages a portfolio of prospects with capacity to make gifts of $25,000 and more; regularly identifies and contacts additional prospects through research and referrals.
3. Meets individually with prospects and volunteers.
4. Responsible for making 15 to 20 face-to-face visits (moves) per month designed to move prospects toward making a philanthropic commitment to the university.
5. Makes personal gift solicitations.
6. Management of the process includes maintaining a comprehensive understanding of University priorities, preparation of the solicitation materials, conducting strategy meetings, and preparing briefing materials for President/Vice President of Advancement/Dean/others involved in solicitation.
7. Directs a solicitation to all prospects in portfolio for the university annual fund.
8. Maintains appropriate contact with prospects and records all contact in University Advancement prospect management system.
9. Attends university events and volunteer meetings, often during the evenings and weekends; represents the university to external constituents. Participates in Advancement monthly staff meetings/prospect tracking meetings/committee meetings/quarterly staff retreats.
10. Manages an annual budget.
11. Staffs and supervises projects as assigned.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

This position requires a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university. Professional experience should include at least eight years of experience in fundraising and/or outside sales, particularly in preparing and soliciting major six and seven figure gifts. A proven track record of strategic, entrepreneurial and creative fundraising success, the demonstrated ability to thrive in a culture that is results-oriented and fast paced and the ability to build strong collaborative relationships across a complex organization is needed. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to work with colleagues in a team environment is needed. The ability to travel extensively is required.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Experience in program management, including budget oversight, data analysis, and event management is desirable.
