Position Overview

The Director is responsible for building and expanding financial and non-financial support for the real estate program through outreach to the real estate profession, the Center for Real Estate Advisory Board, and the academic program. The Director is also responsible for student placement, mentoring, and advising. The Center for Real Estate’s mission is to provide the commercial real estate industry with innovative, effective, ethical real estate decision-makers through superior applied learning experiences, relevant research, and valuable community outreach.

Duties and Responsibilities

1. Build Sponsorships, Relationships, Placements, Mentorships, and Fund Raising
• Coordinate and secure sponsors and speakers for the annual Marquette University Real Estate Strategies Conference, Chicago Breakfast Conference, Residential Real Estate Summit, and other functions.
• Direct and support the Center for Real Estate Advisory Board and the REALM (Real Estate Alumni Marquette) Network Board.
• Develop relationships with employers to that lead to internship and career opportunities for students and alumni.
• Advise, mentor, and place real estate students by actively engaging them with commercial real estate industry leaders. Provide support for Real Estate Club events, site tours, and annual trips to the national and local meeting of organizations such as NAIOP, ULI, ICSC, BOMA, IREM, etc.
• Assist Center endowment and other philanthropic fundraising efforts.
2. Operations
• Oversee Center for Real Estate operations including strategic planning, conferences, fundraising, student activities, balance budgets, etc.
• Communicate with the real estate profession, Center for Real Estate Advisory Board, and students through monthly/quarterly newsletters, board updates, student announcements, and social media.
• Direct, evaluate, and lead Center for Real Estate staff (currently 1/2 office assistant and a possible student intern from time-to-time).
3. Education/Teaching
• Work with the Robert B. Bell, Sr., Chair in Real Estate and real estate faculty to facilitate the academic curriculum.
4. Assist real estate faculty with applied learning experiences and other support on an “as needed” basis.
5. Perform other duties and responsibilities as required, assigned, or requested.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

• Undergraduate degree in Business or a field related to real estate.
• Significant experience in commercial real estate industry, minimum of five years, ten or more years preferred.
• Have the connections and ability to secure program sponsorships and event speakers.
• Have the interpersonal skills to engage Center Advisory Board Members
• Have the creative and business writing skills to effectively communicate with the CRE Board and friends
• Have the ability to engage, mentor and place students
• Have strong interpersonal team building skills.
• Have a depth of knowledge of Microsoft Office products.
• Know html or similar programming language to update CRE webpage.
• Know or learn UA’s Raiser’s Edge program and event management software.
• The ability to intermittently work evenings and weekends and travel with students to the national professional meetings of the commercial real estate organizations.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

• Master’s degree in Business preferred.
• Knowledge of the commercial real estate industry with deep connections to industry leaders.
