Position Overview

The English as a Second Language Program (ESLP) provides advanced English courses for students who need further formal instruction in spoken or written English for success in their Marquette academic studies. The ESL Lecturer will teach classes to undergraduate students and will participate in university course assessment. This is a full-time, temporary position for fall semester, 2017.

Duties and Responsibilities

The ESL Lecturer will develop course materials, lesson plans, and assessments; will teach assigned courses; will grade students’ homework and assessments; will meet individually with students to provide additional support; and will contribute to the overall goals of the ESLP program.

1. Teaching: Teach four advanced ESL credited courses (10 -12 credit hours); devise syllabi, lessons, course materials, and assessments for each course.

2. Assessment: Gather, aggregate, and analyze students’ data and submit this information so that it can be included in the annual assessment report.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

A candidate will hold a bachelor’s degree in TESOL, TESOL certificate, or an equivalent degree; 2-3 years of teaching experience within an intensive English program or in a university-level ESOL program; commitment to the mission and identity of Marquette University; and relevant skills such as reliability, initiative, organization, and empathy to intercultural communication; and proficiency in written and spoken standard U.S. English.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Graduate degree in TESOL or an equivalent degree; 3 or more years of university-level ESOL teaching experience; significant overseas study or work experience.
